His father Kunjalal Ganguly (Gangopadhya) was a lawyer and his mother Gouri Devi came from a wealthy family. Anoop Kumar was the second youngest of four siblings, the other three being Ashok Kumar (the eldest), Sati Devi, and Kishore Kumar (the youngest).
